How to Make a Really Nice Vegan Chicken Burger

In this post, I’d like to teach you how to make an amazing vegan chicken burger in a super simple way. I will be using spices to add tons of flavor to the vegan chicken burger. It will be super easy and very delicious. Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Collect your ingredients

Start off by choosing your ingredients. For the vegan chicken burger I used a really nice one from Aldi. Quite cheap and really delicious. Next to that I added the buns, salsa, some lettuce and pickles, easy as that.

What to consider when choosing your ingredients

So the above list is just what I used to make this vegan chicken burger. But of course I’d like to give you the reasons why I choose them and what to consider when you are choosing yours.

To be honest I think you have freedom to change pretty much every ingredient but the vegan chicken burger, to stay within the recipe of course. Tryout the Aldi vegan chicken burger if you want, otherwise use the vegan chicken burger you desire!

For the bun, my own consideration is that when the burger is crunchy (battered (vegan) chicken), your bun is soft. And when your burger is soft (meat burger), your bun is crunchy. Hence, I chose for a soft bun in this case. To keep the attention to the crunchiness of your burger.

I haven’t payed too much attentions to the greens, this would in this case be to add some texture and height to the vegan chicken burger. Since the flavor is already concentrated in the burger and the salsa. I simply chose some lettuce and pickles. The pickles do add some flavor of which I am a big fan of.

Now the salsa is a really important one. They add such a flavor and the visual of it is also really amazing! As a base I chose finely chopped onions and garlic to keep it quite simple and I really like the texture of the onion when it’s finely chopped.

The spiciness of the chillies came from a chili powder I simply added, find out how to make your own in my other post here. Now the texture really is coming from a basic tomato paste with added moist from the sriracha (and maybe a splash of water) and the crunchiness of the chopped onions (amazing!).

Salt, pepper and smoked paprika powder, which I use very much, are added to boost the flavor to the highest level.

Step 2: Make the salsa

Start finely chopping your onion and garlic, melt butter in a cooking pan on medium-high heat and lightly fry them. Lower the heat to medium and add the spices. Stir and add the moisturizers (tomato paste and sriracha) and stir well. Have a taste and add some more spices if needed.

If you are happy with the result, remove the salsa from the pan and keep the pan without cleaning! We will use this immediately for the vegan chicken burger to save the flavors that are still in the pan. This is a big opportunity to really make a great vegan chicken burger!

Step 3: Frying the vegan chicken burgers

Using the pan and it’s salsa remainders, lightly grill your buns to give them some more rigidity and let them absorb some of the flavors left in the pan. After that, remove the buns and add olive oil generously and let the oil heat up over medium-high heat.

In the meantime, add the salsa directly to your buns (yes both of them), add the layer of greens and pickles (only the bottom piece) and continue.

Stir the salsa remainders into the oil and fry the vegan chicken burgers. Just let the burger sit and do not move it! The oil should be singing, not screaming. Add some salt and pepper to the top side of the burger.

Once you start seeing some darker colors (~5 min) appearing on the side of the burger check if the bottom side looks good and sturdy and flip. Add the salt and pepper to the cooked side and let it sit again.

If the colors are appearing again (~3 min) flip again, to seal the salt and pepper on the already cooked side for only 10 seconds. Turn off the heat and your burgers are done!

Step 4: Combine and serve

Now directly place your burger on the bed of greens and pickles and serve while hot! You will have completed this simple and spiced vegan chicken burger, remember the salsa recipe as it is a really great addition to many other recipes!
