What to consider when choosing the ingredients

The great thing about sambal bali is that it requires minimal effort and very few ingredients. The main component, of course, is chillies. I recommend using a mix of bird’s eye chilies and large red chilies, as they bring different levels of heat and flavor to the mix.

For the spices, use kecap manis and palm sugar to balance the heat and add some sweetness. Use soy sauce and brown sugar if you want to use more commonly available ingredients. Like always, I encourage you to experiment by adding some of your favorite spices!

Step 2: Grind the ingredients

Once you have gathered all the fresh and high-quality ingredients, add them to your powerful food processor. Take your time to grind them thoroughly until they a consistency you prefer.

Mix well with the spices and get ready to serve!

Be careful not to inhale the fumes while doing this- sambal bali can be quite intense!

Step 3: Serve and conserve sambal bali

Sambal bali can be very well combined with various dishes. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also serve sambal bali as a dipping sauce for vegetables or even as a marinade for grilled chicken or seafood. I recommend the following:
