What to consider when choosing the ingredients

When making carrot sambal, it’s important to consider the quality and freshness of the ingredients you use, as they will play a significant role in the overall flavor of the dish.

For instance, freshly grated carrot is a crucial ingredient that gives the condiment its unique taste, texture and color.

Also, the bird’s eye chillies provide heat and an intense spice level, while shallots and ginger add a fragrant aroma and flavor.

If some of these ingredients are not available or if you want to experiment, alternatives like serrano peppers, red onions or garlic can be used instead.

Step 2: Chop the ingredients

Once you have all the ingredients ready, it’s time to chop them up. Remove the skin and grate the carrot when using fresh carrots, wash and chop the chillies finely. Chop the shallots into half rings for extra crunch.

Next, peel and finely chop the ginger, choosing only the inner white part of the lemongrass and chop it finely as well. Mix all the ingredients properly in a bowl and add salt to taste.
